Love this. Save it for a future book (of course you will) on A Culture Gone By. Don’t understand the substack technology much, restack, for example so I appreciate the email with a link. Warmly, Dana

I'm still figuring Substack out, too. Hang in there!

I have also witnessed parents bringing their infants, toddlers, children to movies they shouldn't. Frustrating doesn't begin to describe my thoughts. Later, they'll wonder why their once happy, carefree child is fearful of going to sleep. I wish I could say those instances surprise me, unfortunately, after 30 years of being a cop, I've long realized some people lack sense, among other serious flaws.

And I wholeheartedly agree with your quote: We need to be courageous and stand for good.

God bless you Mr. Bell.

Keep up the great work.

Ahh...Lugosi was fun! I remember watching the Count in b&w, curled up on the couch next to my Mom.

I lived in LA for 8 years after college, and got so I hardly even paid attention to the shakin' goin' on. Although, one time, I woke up in my dorm room with my bed jitterbugging across the floor. That was a bit scary.

Love the Mill quote...should be memorized by each and every graduating senior (and their parents...)

Mr. Bell, I love the Hollywood lore you report. You either have an encyclopedic mind, or a fat film library, or both. It also helps that you are in the industry. Love the Chesterton quote especially. Another man with a phenomenal mind, I’m just beginning to discover his huge body of work. Have you read the Man Who Was Thursday. A Nightmare?, or What I Saw In America? Fascinating mind. (Sorry, can’t find italics here…)
